Kara Leong is the Executive Director of iCAMP, the Integrative Center for Alternative Meat and Protein, a collaborative initiative between UC Davis, UCLA, USDA, The Culinary Institute of America, UMBC, and Solano Community College. iCAMP is a center of excellence with a mission to accelerate the commercialization of sustainable alternative proteins to meet global needs by 2050, leveraging expertise in biotechnology/biomanufacturing, agriculture, and food science. The center comprises of over 45 interdisciplinary experts focused on developing plant-based, fungal, and cell-based meats and protein, along with education, workforce training, consumer studies, food safety, and culinary innovation. Kara has over 20 years of experience in scientific research, corporate fundraising, and strategic partnerships, previously serving as a development director for UC Davis Office of Research and the Provost. She also worked as Chief of Staff for the Singapore based alternative protein startup TurtleTree and holds degrees in molecular genetics, environmental design, and a Master's in fermentation science from UC Davis, as well as a professional certification in fundraising.
